That awkward moment when your shirt smells horrible even though you just washed it.
I’m talking about smelly shirts, friends. We all know it ain’t pretty. I mean, I’m fine being known as “the goat lady.” I just don’t want to smell like one.
In my research, I’ve found that there are a lot of recipes for armpit body odor in shirts. Few really work.
This one?
It works.
It may take a good soak on older shirts, but this armpit spray offers great prevention on new shirts. And you won’t smell like a goat lady anymore.
The BEST Armpit Shirt Spray (for stains and smells)
The recipe is very simple, but in order for it to work, you need to spray it on RIGHT AFTER you take it off and BEFORE you place it in the hamper. Let this spray do it’s work for you as it sits there waiting to be washed.
Ingredients:
- One 2 oz. glass or spray bottle – here’s where I get mine
- Vodka. Any cheap stuff will do!
- Melaleuca essential oil – here’s my favorite brand
Directions:
Fill the bottle almost all of the way full with vodka. Add 20-30 drops of Melaleuca essential oil. Screw the top on and shake it up to mix together. Store next to your dirty clothes hamper and get in the habit of spraying the armpits of your shirts RIGHT AFTER you take it off and BEFORE you place it in the hamper.

Spray them with disinfectant spray. That helps too

I’ve been spraying my sweaters pits with rubbing alcohol and leaving them outside to blow in the breeze overnight for years 😀 I like your suggestion to spray them before they hit the laundry basket, but alcohol + fresh air also does wonders to extend the number of wears between washes!

Couldn’t you just use rubbing alcohol instead of vodka?
DaNelle Wolford says
Rubbing alcohol is 70% alcohol. Vodka is only 35%.

No drinking alcohol in my house (former addict) … would the rubbing alcohol work though? My undershirts smell like they’ve been worn by a goat man and I am desperate to try anything at this point. lol
The odor does not happen with all of my shirts
DaNelle Wolford says
Yes, it should work!

Hey Francesco!
We’re willing to bet that the shirts you get the persistent odor on are made with synthetic fabrics like polyester, nylon, or acrylic. They’re more likely to grow bacteria than natural fiber fabrics like cotton or linen. Synthetic fabrics are also shown to lock in the bacteria through multiple washes. The alcohol spray advice is definitely an effective way to kill odors! Tossing some white vinegar in with your laundry is another effective odor killer for fabrics. It can also act as a fabric softener!
